P90X2 Pre-Order Update

Are you guys ready for P90X2? If you couldn’t tell, I’m like a little fat boy anxiously waiting for mommy to take me to the ice cream shop! Seriously, though, this is going to be a program that sets a whole new standard for home workout programs. No, it’s not just because I’m in this program, it’s because of the effort, planning, and people Beachbody hired in to help develop this program. The Million Dollar Horse

For years, I have laughingly asked audiences for a show of hands from those who owned a racehorse worth over a million dollars. Thus far, no one has raised his hand.

Then I ask the audience, "If you did have a million-dollar racehorse, would you let him stay up half the night drinking coffee and booze, smoking cigarettes and eating junk food?" Next question: "Would you treat a 10-dollar dog or a 5-dollar cat that way? What about a billion-dollar body?"

It's fascinating that we would not treat a pet or a valuable animal the way we treat our own bodies. Question: If you did keep that million-dollar racehorse up all night smoking and drinking, how many races would he win? Obviously, horses can't smoke or drink booze. But if they could, no sensible owner would subject one to that kind of treatment. Yet, in the race for life, many people abuse their bodies, even as they observe the idea that if you've got your health, you've got everything — or at least a chance to get everything.

Ironically, health care is the "in" topic today.
We're told that if we take steps one, two and three, then we will have energy to burn, our aches and pains will disappear, and we'll lose the unwanted weight and shape up so we can win friends and influence people.
Realistically, daily, disciplined accountability is the key to good health, and there are only four major requirements: Get a reasonable amount of sleep; maintain a smart, well-balanced diet; exercise moderately on a regular basis; and avoid the poisons of tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
At age 45, I weighed over 200 pounds, despite numerous diets. Then I got on a sensible eating and exercise program, and 10 months later, I had lost the excess 37 pounds. I maintain the proper weight today. That approach works. Take it, and I'll see you at the top!

The 4 Causes of Inaction

Although creative avoidance may appear in many forms there are really 4 main causes of our inaction towards what we really need to be doing to be productive. These 4 concepts apply to people across all different professions, ages, or endeavors. You show me a person who is not achieving life at the level they want to be and I’ll show you 1 of these 4 diagnosis.

1. Lack of Purpose and Vision
The likelihood of accomplishing your dream is directly proportionate to the clarity in which you see it. Most of us do not discipline ourselves to spend the time dreaming and then capturing and articulating those thoughts. Every great achievement was first birthed by a compelling dream. You know you have an effective vision if it (a) can be concisely articulated by you to another person and (b) calls you into action when you think about it. Having a long term vision gives you the perspective you need to endure the short term sacrifice. The sooner you clarify a person’s purpose the sooner you will see an increase in their production.
ADVICE: Put up pictures and images that represent the vision you have for your life and also have a list of affirmations stating exactly what and who you are becoming.
2. Lack of Gameplan and Intention
For many of us our inaction is actually caused by overwhelm of either what we’d need to do to be successful or by the seemingly insurmountable odds we’re up against to achieve our vision. This is where focus becomes so critical because you turn your attention from the grandiose dream to the immediacy of what action item is right in front of you.
ADVICE: Start with what you need to STOP doing. “If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.” It’s often easier to notice which activities we need to eliminate than to identify what the steps are we need to take. Then via research, mentorship, or sheer intuition create a to-do list for every single day. Carry it with you and limit it to only 5 items. Knowing what your next 5 steps are reduces your fear and uncertainty dramatically.
3. Lack of Self-Confidence
There is a crisis of confidence in the world today. Millions of people are afflicted with self-doubt, low esteem, and uncertainty that leaves them unable to act. The cause? Comparing ourselves to others. The only reason why we’d never feel good about ourselves is when we hold ourselves up to someone else’s standards. It’s fine to compete with others to drive you but don’t compare yourself to them (i.e. derive your self-worth based on your production/results compared to theirs). Realize that as Mark Twain said “each man is my superior in some way” and that you have something incredibly unique and rare to offer the world.
ADVICE: Put your self-esteem into your work habits rather than your production. Challenge yourself to grow in terms of the effort you’re putting in and in terms of other things that are within your control. Take pride in controlling the controllables and letting everything else go.
4. Lack of Accountability
There is a law that simply states “that which is monitored is improved.” Simply by having to keep track of your actions and your results you are going to improve your productivity. But most of us don’t have someone holding us accountable. Because we’re all so busy being busy that there is no one to report our progress to. Or we avoid accountability because we’re afraid of either failing or it coming to light that actually WE’RE NOT DOING ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE! Accountability increases your chances of success, not decreases it. So don’t fear having to report to someone. For most of us it’s easy to let ourselves down but it’s incredibly painful to let someone else down.
ADVICE: Get someone to report your progress to daily. If your goal is fitness, get a trainer. If your goal is a promotion, get a mentor. If you’re trying to grow your business, get a coach. You must have someone on your team, that is in support of you, that checks in with you regularly. The cost of a coach may be hundreds but the cost of no accountability is millions. Self-discipline requires sacrifice. The 4 concepts listed above will require you to sacrifice your time, your convenience, your energy, and your emotional comfort with “the way you’ve always done it.” But remember a cornerstone of the Take The Stairs mentality is that it’s a privilege, not a sacrifice, to pay the price for your dreams. Ending The Trend of Obesity, One Family at a Time!

Everyone wishes they could be healthier or in better shape. Why is it then that obesity is such a huge problem in this country? The answer is really simple, we want everything easy and right away!
There is a growing trend, literally, in America. That trend is that obesity and inactivity are taking over our country, family by family. The only way to change that trend then, is family by family, and person by person. In April of 2010 I was part of that trend. I had two young boys that were looking up to me, and I knew that I was not showing them how to make healthy and smart choices. I made the decision to change the trend of obesity in my life that spring. I picked out an intense workout plan, set up a healthy eating plan that I knew I could actually stick with, and most importantly, put my decision into action. I made a commitment to do that 90 day workout and to stick to my healthy eating plan. I started out at 253 lbs, a size 38 pants and was out of breath during the warm-ups for my workout. I had knee surgery several years earlier and was still using that as an excuse of why I couldn't push myself. But as I continued with my decision to get healthier, my knee also continued to feel better, and I realized that my excuse didn't have a leg to stand on. (pardon my pun!) Friends and family started to see a difference before I did, and were really surprised to see the weight coming off. I saw the lbs dropping, and that was the additional motivation I needed.
At the end of the 90 days, I got on the scale and was shocked at what I had accomplished! I had lost 70 lbs in 90 days! I was down to a size 32 pants, and was happier and more confident than I had been in my life. The best part was that the decision and commitment I had made to end the trend of obesity, didn't stop at the 90 days. I continued to workout, and my healthy eating had become a healthy habit. Its been over a year since I finished that workout, and I am proud to say that I have kept every pound off, wear a size 30 pant now and have lowered my body fat to 9.1%.
